Ekstasis can be defined as: distraction of mind from either astonishment, entrancement or drunken excitement. Flight of the soul from the body, to stand outside oneself, or aside from oneself: displacement, change, degeneracy, derangement, movement outwards. Etymology - middle english extasie, from old french extasies, from late latin extasis; from greek ekstasis, from existanai. Origin of ecstasy.
